Siberian Iris Seed Distribution 2025

-

Our first SSI seed distribution program last year was a success so we are running another this year. Here we have seeds (both controlled cross and open pollinated) generously provided by hybridizers Rebecca Ary, Bob Hollingworth, Marty Schafer and Jan Sacks, Patrick Spence and Brian Wendel. They include every kind of Siberian – diploid, tetraploid, 28 and 40 chromosome, “flatties” and doubles. Many of the parents are shown here or can be viewed on the AIS Wiki (www.aiswiki. ) This is a wonderful chance to get some modern seedlings of your very own. The seeds are available without charge, and any plants that result are yours to keep, use for breeding, and even name and introduce if desired, with due acknowledgement of their source. The seeds and further details including additional photos if required can be obtained from Bob Hollingworth (cyberiris@att.net). The list opens on Dec. 1st and seeds will be mailed in early December, including instructions on germinating them. We can send them overseas as long as a phytosanitary certificate or similar official permitting is not required by the importing country. Last year we sent them to growers in New Zealand and Canada. And, please remember supplies of some kinds will be limited, so it will be first come first served! A list of these is below along with a file attached here with photos of many of the parents that are still seedlings and un-named. Details and photos of most of the named ones can be found on the AIS Wiki (https://wiki.irises.org).

If interested, or you have any questions, please contact me at the address below. Let me know the ones you would like (including the Packet number). Keep in mind that the 40 chromosome group (Sino-siberians) has distinct climatic needs and generally only grows well in the US in the Pacific northwest zone. Depending on the level of interest, not all crosses may be available, so including a few alternative choices would be helpful.
